The main controls to buy, place, repair and upgrade are all easy to use. Which is where the decisions need to be made, and your resources (primarily money) need to be carefully allocated. And while you do earn money for destroying each enemy tank, it's never enough. As does upgrading each weapon for more range and more destructive potential. Weapons will require maintenance (and repair) as a level progresses, which costs money. The weapons all cost money, and the more effective weapons cost much more money than the weaker weapons, but the weaker weapons can be purchased in larger quantities to make up for the lower damage. This is a nice visual change and does require some subtle changes to strategy, including a consideration about the height of the terrain where you place your weapons.Īs the genre dictates, this is a game of decisions and resources. IBomber Defense throws in an alternative style of playing on some levels, where you are asked to be an aggressor with your towers and sink a number of ships as they pass through your territory on the high seas.

That defence is through a series of weapons that will pummel the attacking forces, wearing them down as they pass by the towers, eventually being destroyed a little bit short of the central point. In case you haven't clocked it from the screenshots, iBomber Defense is a tower defense style game, where one side will follow predefined lines and routes that lead to a central point that the other side will be defending. The levels have some nice visual clues but if you're hoping for a replication of the Battle of Tobruk you're out of luck. Neither is there a feeling of progressing through historical moments of the war. The twist in the game is you can play either as the Axis or the Allies, although this doesn't mean you get to play the attacking forces trying to break through the defences - you simply defend as the Axis or defend as the Allies.

You can go for a full campaign mode in the game, or a quick starting single mission. Built around a World War Two theme, iBomber Defense takes you to three fronts which represent the various levels and terrain you can fight in - the North Africa theatre, the European 'Western Front', and deep into Russia.

Initially released in January with some bugs and issues, the Nokia exclusive is back in the Windows Store with a bit more polish, but is it enough?

The world of iBomber has got bigger and better! iBomber Defense combines classic tower defense gameplay with the intense action and strategy of the original iBomber games. IBomber Defense by Chillingo (EA Inc.) ($2.79) Surround them to destroy them if one touches the bottom, it’s game over. And Endless Mode never ends - if you’re good enough. Zen Mode asks you to hang out and make your own challenges (try clearing all eighty tiles in one action). Timed Mode asks you how many points you can make in three minutes. Heat the action up in any of three modes. Use wildcard star tiles to link a chain of one color to a chain of another color. You can clear as few as three tiles, though don’t stop there! Swap tiles into groups of three or more. Ten By Eight is a puzzle game strong enough for a brain surgeon and pH-balanced for a rocket scientist.
